Interview Advice

Things are heating up in the Interactive Media job space. People are starting to get comfortable moving again and that means that there will start to be competition for most opportunities.  Most employers want to see 4 - 6 qualified candidates before they make a decision.  I was reading an article from working.com that gives some hints on how to handle yourself in a job interview so you can put your best foot forward to get the job you’re going after.  The link to the story is

The next post will be about how to get the most out of your friendly neighbourhood headhunter.  Look for it in early August.

Personal Branding

In 1997 I read an article in Fast Company magazine by management Guru Tom Peters titled “The Brand Called You”.  To this day I think it is the best Personal Branding article that I have read.  Today most people know about the concept of Personal Branding and it is accepted that career fast trackers follow its tenets knowingly or not.

Headhunters, University career counsellors and anyone giving advice on how to do a job search, seem to talk about it in one way or another and the advent of web 2.0 over the last 5 years or so has made this a much easier concept to implement. But is Personal Branding really the be all and end all of how to promote yourself in the job search arena?

I just read two articles that take a different view on Personal Branding.  The First one Brand You  is a very good article on this approach. The second one Brand You? (pg 16 - 17) is a challenge to how Personal Branding is being implemented in the web 2.0 environment (not much imagination among the headline writers in this topic area). Regardless of the side of this brewing argument you choose to join, both articles are helpful in how to approach the development of your career long term.

If you enjoy these articles hate these articles or have any other kind of feedback please feel free to comment.  All feedback is enthusiastically accepted.

First Post

Saw tumblr and thought I would give it a shot.  I’ve had a couple of aborted tries at blogging but this looked easier and possibly more interesting than what I’ve done before.  Hopefully I’ll talk to all of you soon.
